Probably the biggest part of the emigration process is finding suitable accommodation for you and your family upon arrival at your destination. There is however a huge demand for temporary accommodation in Perth due to the ever increasing influx of migrants, so there are a few things you should bear in mind whilst looking for or booking your accommodation. This guide will help you with that process.

When should I book?

As long before your departure date as possible. Due to demand, most of our accommodation are always booked up for at least 3 months (some even 6 months) in advance, so to secure the accommodation of your choice, you must make sure that you unconditionally secure a reservation at that venue months in advance.

You should ensure that your accommodation is booked before you start thinking about flights and furniture transfer, or anything else for that matter! It will be your new base in Perth for the first few weeks/months, so it is very important that you get it right the first time.

How long should I book for?

No one can answer this question except you personally! We can only tell you the trends we have noticed, and some of the things to consider when making this decision. Typically, new migrants book furnished accommodation through us for from 4 weeks to 12 weeks. We see our accommodation as a bridge between your arrival, and your settling down into something a bit more permanent (i.e. either purchasing your own property or renting un-furnished accommodation for a longer period), and the duration will depend on all kinds of factors such as when your furniture is due to arrive. Many also allow plenty of time to get to know Perth and the suburbs, finding suitable schools for the kids, finding employment, finding suitable areas where you would consider settling in etc. and the security of our fully furnished accommodation is very attractive to people in this situation.

How long will it take for my furniture to arrive?

Generally between 6 and 8 weeks. Many migrants send their furniture over before their departure date so that it arrives at the same time, or shortly after their arrival. This is important to consider as you would want your furniture to be delivered to your new home/rental, so staying in temporary accommodation is ideal for this purpose.

How long does it take to find unfurnished, longer-term accommodation?

This depends largely on which suburb you choose to live in, what kind of property you wish to rent, and more importantly how much rent you are willing to pay. Generally, the Perth market has a wide choice, but lower rent properties tend to be of a very low standard. You may wish to take your time to find suitable accommodation in a good location for the right price. So, it could take you a few days or even weeks to find suitable accommodation. You may also be asked by Estate Agents for a reference during your search for long-term accommodation - Poms in Perth are very reputable and well known in Perth and have provided many migrants with references for this purpose.

These are only a few of the questions you will need answering. An excellent source of information in all areas of migration and life in Perth is our free discussion board.
